Philadelphia doesn't measure up in creating new businesses

The “Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity, 1996-2007. is a report which shows the number of businesses created by individuals in a region. It draws on Bureau of Labor Statistics and Census data to come with an overall business creation rate. I mention this because in todays Philadelphia Inqurirer their is an article which claims that according to this index, ""Philadelphia is the fifth-largest metro area, but it was dead last for entrepreneurial activity at 110 business owners per 100,000 adults. In contrast, Phoenix blazed along with 580 entrepreneurs per 100,000 people."

I'm not too depressed by this figure.

Their is a growing movement in the Philadelphia metro area to change this. Groups like the Philadelphia Startup Leaders are providing an outstanding forum where entrepreneurs can get together and share ideas and war stories.
